Orlop Deck

by Crusader1307

With the term possibly originating with The Dutch, The ''Orlop Deck'' was a 15th Century Shipbuilding identifier for the very lowest Deck of a Ship, in particular 2 and 3-Decked Vessels. In construction, The Orlop was an over-lapping, terrace or balcony above the Lower Hull. The later English translation came to be ''Overlap'' – of which the original Orlop did. In some cases, little or no cargo was stored in The Orlop.
