Japanese Agura

by Crusader1307

The traditional ''mechanics'' of sitting 'ala ''Japanese Style'' – ''Agura'' was the process by which a Japanese Male sat properly on The Floor or Ground. Both buttocks were placed flat on the ground with both legs bent inwards, crossed at the ankles of each leg. Placement (Right over Left or visa versa) was not a requirement. However, ''slouching'' or leaning forward was not allowed. The more rigid the back (posture), the more ''refined''. Per Custom, it was considered uncouth for a Lady to sit in The Agura Position. Women sat in a modified style – legs together and bent directly ''under'' the buttocks. The feet were extended rearward (under the buttock and ''curled slightly'' upwards.
