Located in Montechino, Italy – this Castle was constructed sometime in the 12th Century. Built on The Monte Occhino Hill, it overlooks The Rigilo River. Developed to guard the important regional trade route, it also protected those who were on pilgrimage from Rome to Campostela (in Spain). Built of large rectangular stones from the area, its 4 defensive towers are gabled (at their tops).
It features a central Drawbridge entrance. The walls are also Merloned (for artillery or archer use). Montechino was fought over by local Barons for many centuries. It is currently under private control.
