Error 0xc0000022 while starting Stronghold Crusader on Windows 10

Recommended Posts

Hey, guys! First of all, this is not a question, this is a solution. I believe this will be useful for many people.

I have installed Steam version of Stronghold Crusader on my new laptop which runs Windows 10. When I tried to start the game, it just wouldn't work. No error, no nothing. When I tried to run Stronghold Crusader from the Steam folder:

D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stronghold Crusader Extreme

then I got the error code 0xc0000022. I tried with changing compatibility settings, and it didn't work. It wasn't about that.

You need to enable Direct Play, because having it off is what's causing the issue.

Go to Control Panel, then find Turn Windows features on or off, and under Legacy Components check DirectPlay, and then hit OK. Wait for a while for your PC to finish with everything, and the PC will need to reboot as well. It's all done in few minutes.

Good to know, EaglePrince.

I have read somewhere that Windows 10 is incompatible with some of the older SH games and that is exactly the reason why I am still holding off on upgrading my system.

Do you know how it works with the other games? SH2 and SHL?

Well, yes, this might be what they were speaking about, but luckily it wasn't actually about compatibility, but about one necessary option being disabled at Windows 10 by default.

I don't know about Stronghold 2 and Stronghold Legends, but I will hopefully check that tomorrow. I'll be busy, but if I forget, please remind me to do it. :) Now it's late, but tomorrow when I come home I can try to install them, and see how they work.

    • Stronghold 2 War Campaign Discussion

I recently got a new computer, and I decided to give Stronghold 2 another go. I didn't play it a lot originally because I played the original and Crusader first, and I didn't really like the added complexity of Stronghold 2 at the time. Once you get into it though, it's fun in its own right. I've been playing through the war campaign, and I've gotten pretty far. Today I finished Chapter 11 (Treachery).   This level is really difficult at the beginning. I tried keeping the original layout at firs

    • Need Beta-testers for Stronghold Crusader Aiv Mod

Been working on a whole new AIV folder/mod for months, and probably spent more than 600 hours on it so far. More on the work on the AIV below. Need some testers for this AIV mod. I've made 8 new castles for each of the 16 characters, 128 new castles in total, and none of them are identical. There will be around 60 scenarios (30 from original trail and 30 from warchest trail) in total for you testers. I'll do the rest (some I've already done). I have a hard time doing it (everything), as I h
