SPOTLIGHT ON UFOs AND EXTRATERRESTRIALS

''THE GREAT MOON HOAX''

The ''Great Moon Hoax'' was a World renown ''Event'' which cause so much stir in 1835, even when the story was admitted as a Hoax, many still did not believe it. The story was printed in a series of six serialized articles in The New York Sun Newspaper. The ''expert'' quoted was a World respected Scottish Astronomer (Sir John Herschel). According to the ''supported facts'', Herschel and an assistant had constructed an ''immense Telescope'' by which to bring the image of Earth's Moon ''extremely close in view''. So much so, that Herschel ''saw'' ''great Cities, Temples and even great herds of animals similar to some found on Earth''. Herschel ''claimed'' that He even ''saw The Race of Humanoid Beings that lived in great numbers on The Moon''. He called them ''Bat Men'' – due to the fact that they had bat-like wings and could ''fly''.

The story took The World by storm. Soon everyone from Common Man to Fellow Scientist to Royalty and Presidents -ALL wanted more proof. However, according to the final Article, Dr Herschel experienced a ''catastrophic failure'' of His Telescope. The massive glass lens, it seems magnified too much of the Sun's direct rays – setting fire to His Laboratory and thus destroying The Telescope (which took many years to built). Then the ''hammer dropped'' (as it were). The ''real'' Dr. Herschel made it known that He had in fact NOT found any such proof of Life and further contemplated bringing suit against The Sun Newspaper for slander. And while The Sun ''unofficially admitted'' the story was ''conceived by one of it's Reporters as a means to increase circulation sales'' – it NEVER printed an official retraction. Many Readers STILL believed the story, citing that The Governments of The World were keeping the ''truth'' hidden for another reason. Perhaps The ''Great Moon Hoax'' was the earliest example of such actions by a Government.

More ''Earthbound'', famed Gothic Poet and Writer Edgar Allen Poe also debated suing The Sun. He claimed that He had in fact published a short story in Baltimore, Maryland. His tale involved a ''Balloon Trip to The Moon'' and finding ''Alien Life''. There were similarities in both, but Poe never raised enough funds to sue. Still later, Jules Verne in 1865 would publish ''From The Earth To The Moon''. Verne readily credited both Poe and The Sun Article as inspiration for His early Sci-Fi work.

THE HOWDEN MOOR INCIDENT

''Something'' happened over the skies of Howden Moor, Yorkshire and Derbyshire, England on March 24, 1997. The ''something'' has since been put down to ''confusion and hysteria''. But for many hundreds who live in and around The Moor – they will actively disagree with the ''official assessment of The Situation'' (as it were). The telephone calls began around 1015 PM that cold night, to various Police and Fire Rescue Agencies from all over The Region. It was reported that a ''huge, fireball'' was coming down at great speed near the more remote locations of The Moor. 15-minutes later, reports of the ''Object'' having ''crashed'' were relayed.

Police and Fire responded to The Moor in full response alert. The cold night and possibilities of survivors made the search for a crashed aircraft ''vital''. Professionally trained, civilian Search and Rescue Teams also tuned out. According to local Air Traffic Control Towers – ''something'' did register on their screens (if only for a brief second). After many hours of searching, nothing was found. The large amount of telephone calls made it all the more stranger. ''Something'' was seen. But soon even more ''evidence'' became clear. Some callers stated that the ''Object'' (whatever it was), ''glowed with a Reddish Green color'' even emitting a ''strange humming noise'',. The unknown Object was seen by some as it appeared to be ''controlling it's landing – or trying to''. The Object was heard by many in The Region when it impacted with the ground. It sounded like a sonic boom generated by a Jet traveling at Mach Speed.

Soon The British Military got involved. After several days of ''investigation'' – by which NO ONE was allowed into the ''declared zone of study'', The RAF determined that there was ''nothing to report''. Months afterwards, the curious investigated the supposed ''crash site''. The ground appeared thoroughly ''cleaned'' of rocks, dirt and debris (wood, moss etc.) - in other words, ANY evidence of ANYTHING out of the ordinary was made to look just that ''ordinary''. Some locals cite the stories (as we have previously discussed) of ''Ghost Planes''. These ''Phantom Aircraft'' crashes and sighting have been common in The Region since World War II. Some state that the Howden Moor ''crash'' was nothing more that a ''wide scale paranormal'' Event. Others, - well...they have their OWN opinions.

''THE CONDIGN PROJECT''

''Project – Condign'' was a British Government ''official'' investigation into several topics relating to Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs). Commissioned and active between 1997 and 2000 (oddly ''after'' the previously reported ''Howden Moor Incident'' of 1997), initially – The British Government disavowed it's overall existence until The British Freedom of Information Act ''declared'' The Projects written findings clear for Public viewing in 2005. The overall result of Project – Condign? According to The British Government, UFOs were not seen as an implicit threat to British Defense or overall ''Air Superiority''. Further, the majority of ''sightings'' were declared ''misidentified, natural phenomenon, such as Ball Lighting or Meteorites''. Other cited causes were ''Space Junk'' burning up upon reentry into Earth's Atmosphere. With regards to those who ''encountered'' Alien Contact or even secured ''proof'' (evidence) – The Project ''determined'' that the vast majority of Cases were produced by a myriad of ''psychological and emotional triggers, based on various forms of hysteria''. Evidence too, was put off to ''misidentified objects''. The Project's findings are clearly – to those believers in the reality of The Subject, false in compilation and accuracy.

''THE BROOKINGS REPORT''

The Brookings Institute is an American ''Think Tank'' used by The US Government to investigate and theorize a wide variety of Subjects (Economic Forecast, Conflict, etc.) Made up of the ''Best and Brightest'' of American Minds, it was founded as such in 1916. It still is consulted today by US Government ''Higher Ups''. In 1960, The Institute was contacted by a newly created US Agency, tasked with developing and preparing Americans for potential Space Flight. The Organization was named NASA. The scope of their request....provide theoretical information and case studies regarding the (then) ''new'' phenomenon known as Unidentified Flying Objects. In particular, to assess any and all potential threats to both America and NASA. The Project took 1 year (1961) to formalize it's findings and present them to a specially selected US Congressional Committee.

The Project stressed that caution be used in revealing any potential contact with Extraterrestrial Life to The American Public. This was seen as critical due to possible collapse of Social, Economic and Religious Systems. Just ''what'' was used to determine a ''Religious meltdown'' was never revealed. Further, sightings of ''Objects'' in the skies over The United States, needed to be investigated, but great care was needed with regards to revealing any finding. It was better to err on the side of misidentifying or debunking such sightings rather than to admit the truth (it seems). In short, The Report stated that the sharing of any information with Foreign Nations (Allied or not), was seen as necessary for maintain secrecy (until such time as World Populations could be adequately prepared). The Brookings Report is seen as one of the first examples of a ''blueprint for World Government Cover-ups''. While Brookings Members cited later that The Report was a form of ''scientific good natureship with regards to theorizing just what NASA might encounter'' – other state that such information was already known by World Governments and The Report was used to set the stage for disinformation, which is greatly encouraged even today.

''THE MIRAGE MEN''

''The Mirage Men'' is a 2010 Book written by Mark Pilkington. Widely dismissed as ''fantasy'' (as a means of increasing book sales and securing funding for a 2013 Film) – the book tells the plausible tale of how The US Government has spent decades since the debacle at Roswell in 1947 – debunking and destroying any and all evidence of UFO Contact and Sightings. A Ultra Top Secret Department created by The US Air Force known as The Office of Special Investigations (OSI), the ''Agents'' of which are known (unofficially) as ''Mirage Men''. Their name is derived from ''what'' Contactee's and Witnesses ''didn't see'' or rather a ''mirage''. In addition to threats and actual ''State Sponsored'' assassinations of everyday people (to include making all trace of their identity ''vanish''), The ''Mirage Men'' are seen as a form of the infamous ''Men in Black'' (although these ''Agents'' are entirely ''Human''. While the book is marketed as ''fantasy'', may in the Field state that this was the only way The Writer could release His information (which He maintains was given to Him by Secret sources as a means of informing The Public).

SPOTLIGHT ON UFOs AND EXTRATERRESTRIALS

THE BETTY ANDREASSON ABDUCTION

Regardless of ''if'' you believe Betty Andreasson's story is up to you. But Her ''encounter'' on January 25, 1967 – and that of Her Family of 9, is quite unnerving, if it really happened. Betty was – on the night in question, in The Kitchen washing dishes. Her Mother, Father and (7) Children were in The Living Room of their modest House near South Ashburnham, Massachusetts (US). Suddenly, the lights of The House began to flicker. There was no pending storm or related wind. What was the cause? The ''reason'' was forthcoming. Suddenly, a ''Red Light'' began to shine through The Kitchen Window! So bright, it's illumination (glow) reached The Living Room. Betty's Father was so alerted, and went to look out the Main Living Room Window, outside. What He saw – shocked Him. The Father saw what He later described as ''5, small Beings''. Easily classified as ''Greys'' (Species), all wore a type of Blue Overall. Each Being had but 3-fingers. What was also noted, is that on each Overall, was the image of an unspecified ''bird'' (winged creature). Betty came running from The Kitchen to The Living Room Window and saw the sight as well.

The Beings were not walking but ''floating'' above the ground. Everyone inside The House suddenly ''felt'' as if they could no longer move their feet or legs and were in fact ''frozen''. Betty and Her Father ''watched'' as The Beings simply ''floated thru'' their Front Door! The next thing Betty remembered was that She too was floating (in the company of 2 of The Beings) – thru Her door and outside – towards was appeared to be a ''saucer-shaped Object''. Betty felt great fear for Her Family. This ''fear'' was interpreted by Her ''captors'' who said to Betty (in Her Mind) – that ''Her Family nor Her would be harmed in any way''. Betty recalled later of being subjected to a variety of ''tests'', all the while being ''talked to mentally'' by The Beings. One in particular was slightly taller than the others, who Betty (felt) was ''The Leader''. After a period of time (which was later determined to be 4-hours), Betty and Her Family were taken home. Betty was aware that Her and Her Family were back inside their House – in The Living Room, but all were still in a strange state of suspended animation. Betty noted a Being was left behind – as it to ''monitor their recovery''. As the Family began to ''stir more'', The Being simply disappeared.

The Event so bothered Betty and Her Family, that Betty would answer a National Advertisement put out by none other than Dr. J. Allen Hyneck (noted UFO Studies Pioneer), to interview persons who had encounters and possible abduction stories involving Aliens and UFOs. Originally, Hyneck's Office did not answer Betty's Letter (thinking that Her story was ''too improbable'' to be real). It took 2 years of pleading to get Hyneck involved. He no doubt was glad He did in the finale. Placed under hypnotic regression to retrieve ''loss memories and experiences'', Betty faithfully related Her encounter several times, by different administering Doctors – exactly word for word (a rare event in itself). Betty's Family too did not deviate from their perceptions as well. In the end, Hyneck would conclude that ''something traumatic'' did happen to Betty and Her Family. ''Something'' which to this day has never been adequately explained.

SPOTLIGHT ON UFOs AND EXTRATERRESTRIALS

THE BROAD HAVEN TRIANGLE

A strange named applied to a Coastal Area of Wales (UK) – The so named ''Broad Haven Triangle'' has been a source of repeated sightings of ''strange lights'' over the skies of the picturesque seaside community, which attracts many visitors yearly. Several of the more infamous ''sightings'' actually yielded ''Contact'' (of sorts), by Alien Beings. This tale goes back to 1977 – February 4th and 17th in particular. A local Primary School had a Recess (Break) for their Students outside. The Campus featured a long open field (Athletics), which was bordered on two sides by dense woods. A Groups of 20 Boys (ages 10 to 14) were outside playing, supervised by their Teacher. After several minutes, The Teacher noticed what appeared to be a ''strange, silvery Object – underneath a stand of trees, in the far distance''. An odd sight, soon the playing Boys too, saw the Object.

Within a few more minutes, the Boys and their Teacher ''saw what appeared to be a Humanoid Figure, dressed in some form of silvery suit'', exit from The Object. Originally, not seeing that ''it was being observed'', The Being seemed to be ''looking around the woods'', that is until after ''it'' was aware of being ''seen''. According to reports, The Being went inside The Object, which lifted off the ground without a sound, and moved quickly into the sky and a bank of clouds. Later still, The Teacher had his Students draw what they saw. The Boys were placed in separate rooms and had no chances to speak with one another until after the task. All drawings were extremely similar – so much so that one may have thought they copied a general model. Investigated by local Police, The British Military was likewise advised. The Police had no clue and The Military never showed. The encounter was covered Nationally in Newspaper and on Television.

Slightly over a week later, of February 17th – another School Group (this time only Teachers) and a nearby ladies Club, too – saw a similar Object and Being. This Case also featured an ''oblivious'' Alien who, when seen – quickly climbs into His Craft and flies away. Other sightings were reported in April of the same year, but these were only of ''strange Lights in The Sky''. In 1978, a Man (who lived in Broad Haven) came forward to announce that it was He who perpetrated the Hoax. He claimed He dressed up in a ''silver suit'' and purposely ''set up the stunt'' in each location, just to bring attention to UFOs (which he didn't believe in). However, The Man couldn't produce his ''Space Suit'', nor could He explain His ''Spacecraft'' (which He claimed was not part of His hoax). Perhaps The Man was simply trying to glean publicity from the Event (obviously). So, just what did The School Boys, Teachers and others....experience?

SPOTLIGHT ON UFOs AND EXTRATERRSTRIALS

THE HANEDA AIR FORCE BASE ENCOUNTER

The spectre of Cold War was a constant thing at The USAF Base at Haneda, Japan in August of 1952. Soviet threats (real and perceived) cause many ''false alerts'' in The Pacific. What happen on the 5th of that Month, still has never been explained – only dismissed. Around 1000 AM, Military Air Traffic Control Radars ''locked onto something'' approaching The Air Base at a very ''high rate of speed''. As was normal, an ''Alert Flight'' was launched. This was the then current F-94 Interceptor-Fighter Jet. Once in Air, The Fighter Pilot immediately picked up the fast moving Object on His Jet's on-board Radar. Voice communication was maintained with The Tower and Ground Radar. The Object was traveling in excess of 15,000-mph. At first it was thought to be perhaps an in-coming Missile. However, as The Fighter Pilot approached to within 2-miles, He saw that The Object was not in fact a Missile, but a ''bright Silvery Disk''.

Withing 90-seconds of a visual confirmation, The Ground Radar (and Pilot) – noted The Object ''peel off, straight up into Space''. The speed was estimated at 25,000-mph. The Pilot was cleared to return to Haneda Air Base. Upon reaching home, He was ''met'' by Base Security. Taken to a secure area, The Pilot filed no official report and spoke of the incident to no one. All records of Radar and related telemetry vanished – all within 24-hours of the initial contact.
